A Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Cluster School

Principal Message 12 Nov 2017

Dear Ravenswood Families and Friends,

Extreme Makeover Raffle Challenge
Last week, our 5th-8th graders kicked off our annual student raffle fundraiser with a pep rally, some friendly games and a little smack talk. Since 5th-8th grades typically don’t rank in the top three highest selling grades, we laid down a challenge: if one of those grades takes first place in this year’s student raffle, the winning grade will get a pair of clippers, hair dye, and 30 minutes with Mr. Manaen’s head. I (Mr. Manaen) may sincerely regret this challenge, but bring it on, 5th-8th grades! Meanwhile, our K-4th graders received a visit from everyone’s favorite Austrian bodybuilder Hans. We also talked raffle and played a few games on our brand new rock wall! Our raffle runs through the 27th and is a major fundraiser for the school. Thank you in advance for your help with the raffle and for everything you do to make Ravenswood a great place for our students to learn and grow!

Conferences, Tigers and Bears! Oh My!
We have a LOT of things happening this Wednesday for our parent conferences and report card pick up! We will hold conferences from 11:00-6:00 (with a teacher lunch from 2:30-3:15). We will also hold a workshop on reading levels for K-4 families at 10:30 and a workshop on how to understand the MAP assessment and scores for our 2-8th grade parents at 3:00 in the Learning Lab (4th floor next to the library and computer lab). We will also have our book fair in the gym, lost and found giveaway out on the first floor, a parent portal sign up, and a rock wall ribbon cutting ceremony at 2:30! We are looking forward to seeing you there and please don’t hesitate to drop by the office if you’d like to speak with either of us. Ms. Karrel, our principal-in-training, will also be available to meet with you.

As we approach the holiday season, we want to strongly encourage you to send your child to school every day that they are healthy. We know that student attendance has a significant impact on their academic growth, and we are asking for your help to ensure your student is here on time and present every day they are able. If your child is sick, please send a note with your child when they return letting us know why they were absent. Thank you for helping us help your child!
